Graduates open up at Open Days

September 11, 2018 by

The Living Room has held its annual Open Days at Stevenage and St Albans, giving visitors an insight into our unique service and an opportunity to hear testimonials from some of our graduates.

On Thursday 6th September, we opened the doors of our Stevenage centre to partnership organisations, commissioning groups, local dignitaries, councillors and other members of our community. Visitors were shown around our facilities, met our counsellors, management team and some of our service users then listened to testimonies from three of our graduates.

Rob Henry (TLR’s chair of trustees) and Katie Carter (manager) greet Stevenage Mayor Margaret Notley.

Anthony, Susie and Jo gave powerful accounts of their lives before, during and after they attended The Living Room’s Stevenage Centre. All three acknowledged that they would not have been able to attend treatment if it hadn’t been free of charge and they stayed because they could related to the counsellors, who themselves were in recovery.

TLR Founder, Janis Feely MBE with Chief Executive, Adrienne Arthurs.

Guests at our Open Day in St Albans on 20th September heard inspiring stories from three of our current clients. Hannah, June and Tracey gave inspiring accounts of how their lives have changed now that they have respectively found recovery from alcohol, gambling and cocaine addiction.

Breathe in calm, breathe out stress…

The Box Breathing Tool, created by Watford counsellor Yousef Kira Durrani, is a simple yet highly effective technique designed to help regulate the nervous system during times of anxiety, stress, overwhelm, or emotional discomfort.

By following a structured pattern of breathing in, holding, breathing out, and holding again for equal counts, we can slow our heart rate, calm racing thoughts, and bring our attention back to the present moment.
