It’s official – Richard is a volunteer hero!

May 21, 2018 by

Richard Colmar, one of The Living Room’s longest serving volunteers, has been recognised for his efforts at The Comet Community Awards, which were held earlier this month. Richard, who was one of dozens of volunteers in Hertfordshire who was nominated for the award, was one of only four who made it to the final of the ‘Service to the Community’ category.

Richard has volunteered at The Living Room for the past six years. To everyone who works at the charity, he is a friendly, calming presence. To our clients, he is a mentor – always on hand to offer his wisdom, reassurance and advice.

Chief Executive, Adrienne Arthurs (pictured with Richard, above), commented, “Richard has shown true dedication to The Living Room. Over the years, he has helped hundreds of our clients in their recovery from addiction. Volunteers like him are the life-blood of charities such as our’s. No one is more deserving of this honour.”

Breathe in calm, breathe out stress…

The Box Breathing Tool, created by Watford counsellor Yousef Kira Durrani, is a simple yet highly effective technique designed to help regulate the nervous system during times of anxiety, stress, overwhelm, or emotional discomfort.

By following a structured pattern of breathing in, holding, breathing out, and holding again for equal counts, we can slow our heart rate, calm racing thoughts, and bring our attention back to the present moment.
