Volunteers’ Week 2022

June 7, 2022 by

7th June 2022

We’ve said it before, but it remains true: we wouldn’t exist without the help of our volunteers.

Every year, Volunteers Week takes place from June 1 to June 7. It’s an opportunity to recognise and honour the incredible efforts volunteers make to our communities. Small grassroots organisations, as well as larger, household-name nonprofits, promote and celebrate Volunteers’ Week.

Volunteers’ Week 2022 is an opportunity to express gratitude. Volunteers have played a critical part throughout the pandemic. During an incredibly challenging number of years, people from all walks of life across the UK have volunteered and made a significant difference in their communities.

As Volunteers’ Week comes to an end, we’ve written a short but meaningful poem for all the volunteers who have helped us in any way, shape or form at The Living Room. We hope that this poem shares our sentiments about those special people who dedicate whatever time they have to us, no matter how big or small. This poem is a handwritten piece from a staff member and is called ‘Beyond your role’.

Beyond Your Role

Volunteers, your work is extraordinary,

You carry a smile plus a heart of gold.

The help you provide is outstanding & sincere,

The helping hand to the young and old.

Always giving your time and energy,

Even when busy, you find the space.

Always sharing your ideas on how to help

Or treating us to sweets and cakes.

You’re full of good cheer to be around,

You brighten up whatever comes our way.

You bring more than just extra help,

That’s why we felt we had to say.

Thank you for all your efforts with us,

Helping us reach our aims and goals.

You’re more than just volunteers to us,

We see you more beyond your role.

You’re the ‘T’ in Together, ‘E’ in Effective

And the ‘A’ in Always Willing

You’re the ‘M’ in Miracles which you provide

And as a TEAM we’ll keep on winning.

A HUGE thank you to all our volunteers at The Living Room.

Breathe in calm, breathe out stress…

The Box Breathing Tool, created by Watford counsellor Yousef Kira Durrani, is a simple yet highly effective technique designed to help regulate the nervous system during times of anxiety, stress, overwhelm, or emotional discomfort.

By following a structured pattern of breathing in, holding, breathing out, and holding again for equal counts, we can slow our heart rate, calm racing thoughts, and bring our attention back to the present moment.
