Trustees also have the opportunity to join one of our Board committees, which meet approximately every other month online to support specific areas of the charity’s work.

If you would like an informal conversation about becoming a Trustee, please contact our Chief Executive, Adrienne Arthurs, at [email protected]

Founder and Honorary Life President

Janis Rogers MBE founded The Living Room in May 2000 after recognising the need for a different approach to recovery—one that was welcoming, community-based and centred on hope. At a time when treatment options were limited, she envisioned a day service where people could access professional support while rebuilding their lives within their own communities.

Driven by that vision, Janis spent more than a year securing funding, building partnerships and inspiring others to believe that recovery was possible. Her determination laid the foundations for The Living Room, which has since supported 8000+ people and their families across Hertfordshire.

Although Janis retired in 2016, her vision continues to shape everything we do. As our Founder and Honorary Life President, her legacy lives on through our trustees, staff, volunteers, partners and supporters, who remain committed to providing compassionate, person-centred recovery support and ensuring hope remains at the heart of The Living Room.
