Drug Addiction

Some drugs such as heroin, are physically addictive with the user finding they need to take more in order to prevent withdrawal. Others, such as cocaine and amphetamines, do not produce severe physical withdrawal symptoms but can be just as addictive.

Consider seeking help regarding your drug use if any of the following apply…

  • You use drugs to escape when problems seem too much to bear.
  • Your using is interfering with eating and sleeping.
  • You have tried to stop/control your drug use.
  • Your drug use has caused upset in your family or place of work.
  • Other non-drug using people say your drug taking is out of control.
  • You have substituted one drug for another.
  • You have had to take increasingly larger amounts of a drug to get the desired effect.
  • You have taken one drug to overcome the effects of another.
  • You have stolen drugs, or stolen money or items in order to obtain drugs.
  • You have been arrested as a result of using drugs.

Breathe in calm, breathe out stress…

The Box Breathing Tool, created by Watford counsellor Yousef Kira Durrani, is a simple yet highly effective technique designed to help regulate the nervous system during times of anxiety, stress, overwhelm, or emotional discomfort.

By following a structured pattern of breathing in, holding, breathing out, and holding again for equal counts, we can slow our heart rate, calm racing thoughts, and bring our attention back to the present moment.
